Tesla designed a high-frequency transformer, the Tesla coil. A result of his studies of electricity, this invention led to a fundamental understanding of generation and propagation of the electric current, as well as its applications.

Tesla invented the polyphase AC system, which has remained in use in power generation and transmission.
His innovative project of a hydroelectric plant was a true breakthrough at the time. Once commissioned, this facility supplied several US cities with electricity and laid the foundation for all modern power plants.
Throughout his career as a researcher and inventor, Tesla secured over 300 patents and was awarded the medals of Elliot Cresson, Thomas Edison, and John Scott. In honour of his achievement, his name was given to the unit of magnetic induction.
