Martin Team Space

Martin Team Space

One of the two team spaces at the Corporate University campus is named after the inventor of steel casting regenerative furnace Pierre-Émile Martin (1824-1915).

Born into a family of metallurgists, he came up with a completely new furnace design that efficiently reused the heat generated by the steelmaking process itself. The high quality and desired composition of steel was achieved by feeding iron and scrap into the furnace.

The first open hearth furnace of the Martin design was built in Russia by Alexander Iznoskov. It was commissioned in the spring of 1870 at the Sormovo Plant in Nizhny Novgorod. Open hearths were then built also at the Botkin, Putilov, Obukhov, Perm and other plants.

About the space:

  • The Martin space for team sessions is located on the 4th floor of the campus
  • It offers a scenic view of the cityscape.
  • It creates the perfect environment for reading, reflection, meditation, and creative work
  • It can accommodate a small lecture, training or presentation
  • Next to the Martin and Bessemer team spaces is a quiet and comfortable co-working area for university staff and visitors
