Alexander Baikov (1870-1946) was a Russian steelmaker and metal scientist, a recognized Hero of Socialist Labour. Author of studies on transformations within metals and the theory of metallurgical processes, of manufacture and the use of refractories. Baikov wrote over 40 studies on metallurgical processes, ferrous and non-ferrous chemistry, cements, and other construction materials. His name is  associated with achievements in specialized steel grades and their heat treatment.
