Nikolay Akulov (1900–1976) was a Soviet physicist specializing in ferromagnetism.
He researched ferromagnetism, the physics of burning, plasticity and strength, ferroelectricity and biophysics. In 1928, he articulated the Law of Induced Anisotropy, which has played a prominent role in modern theory of magnetic materials.
In 1934 — independently from Francis Bitter — Akulov proposed an original magnetic metallography method and obtained experimental proof for spontaneous magnetism in ferromagnetic materials. He researched the effects of magnetic fields and elastic stress on various physical properties of ferromagnetic metals, studied the temperature dependencies of critical magnetic characteristics.
